I was worried about winter and snow but the UPS battery has so much more capacity then the four AA batteries it didn't matter. The float solar charger has worked well and keeps the battery topped off most of the year. It's been over a year since I did that and I haven't had to do a single thing. There was enough of a gap for me to run the wire through the box lid that needed to go to the solar charger. I then soldered and shrank wrap those leads to the 3v side of my buck converter and then attached the 12v side to the lead acid battery and then attached the solar charger to the lead acid battery, sealed everything good with silicone and then closed the metal box back up. I drilled a small hole in the front of the flume 2 and ran two wires and soldered them to the terminals the battery pack normally would have gone. I then purchased a 30 watt solar float charger with built in controller that outputs 12v for 19.99 from AliExpress. A pain in the ass to say the least so here is what I did about it.įirst I bought a high quality 12v Lead Acid sealed battery meant for a battery backup unit from Battery+ which cost me 19.99, I then went on Amazon and got a 12v to 3v buck converter that was water proof for 10.99. He is older and with the seasons the battery packs only lasted 6 or so months requiring me to drive over, remove the metal lid, go into this hole filled with spiders, remove the flume 2, replace the battery pack and then put everything back. ![]() ![]() My dad has a flume 2 and his water meter is outside in a box, aka lift up a metal plate and the meter is inside. I know this is an old thread but thought I would throw my hat in.
